How To Be More Confident

I believe confidence is like a muscle. You have to practice being confident in order to become more confident. There are going to be certain days when you feel more confident than other days, and that is okay. You just have to keep practicing. Keep reading to learn my confidence tips & tricks.

I used to not be as confident as I am today. In high school, I was not involved in any after school activities, and I was not happy with myself. I knew I needed to make a change in my life. I researched confidence tips and tricks, learned the science behind confidence, and practiced being more confident. Fast-forward to now, I graduated college being Vice President of the Alumni Relations club, President of Love Your Melon community service club, and a very active member of my sorority, Kappa Delta. Also, I currently work for a successful agency in New York City. I believe I would not have had those opportunities without confidence.

The following are some of my favorite confidence tips & tricks:

1. Do things on your own

I used to be that girl who thought the idea of eating alone was terrifying. Now, I enjoy eating alone at new restaurants. I am able to enjoy my food without any distractions, read, and some of my best ideas occur when I do things on my own. Go to the movies by yourself, go on a shopping trip, or explore a new town.

2. Walk with a purpose

When you walk down the street or down the hall, keep your head up. Walk confidently and be proud of yourself. Don’t stare people down, but walk looking straight ahead at something. When I used to walk down the hall, I work focus on a certain doorway in the distance. (Bonus tip: if you are about to enter a very important meeting, power pose. Put your hands on your hips & stand tall. I recommend doing this in the bathroom or somewhere no one can see you. It will help you feel confident. How we hold ourselves affects our mindset!)

3. Don’t apologize for no reason

Only apologize when you truly need to apologize (Currently working on this habit. So guilty of apologizing when it is not necessary). If you missed somebody’s call because you were at the movies, don’t apologize for enjoying that movie. Just call the person back. If you apologize too often, it will discredit your apology.

4. Do something that scares you

I used to be scared of going on flights alone, then one day my boyfriend had work in Florida and asked me to join him. He was already in Florida, so I had to travel alone. I didn’t want to miss out on this amazing experience, so I had to face my fears. I felt so much more confident once I proved to myself that I can fly by myself. If you are afraid of public speaking, sign up for a public speaking course. It’ll prove to you that you can do anything that you can set your mind to and in return, you will become more confident.

5. Fake it till you make it

You might find yourself in a situation where you don’t feel confident, but you need to be confident. Just fake it till you make it. Trust me, every confident person is not confident 100% of the time. They just act confident. Other people will believe that you are confident, and eventually you will start believing in yourself too.
