Ways To Cheer Yourself Up When You Are Feeling Down

Sometimes, life will throw obstacles at us that we aren’t expecting. You can have a great day one day, and then the next day, everything changes. It is okay to be sad, and you don’t have to beat yourself up over feeling upset. However, you can’t let yourself be sad forever. This is your one and only life. You have to make the most out of it and when things get hard, you have to keep going. Here are ten things I do when I’m feeling sad to lift my mood and give me the strength to keep going with a positive attitude.

1. Listen To Upbeat Music

I definitely recommend creating a playlist of feel good music for days when you are feeling down. If you don’t have a playlist already created, then put on one of your favorite albums or search “happy music” on YouTube. YouTube has many playlists already created with great songs. Before you know it, you will be singing along to some of your favorite songs and your mood will instantly be lifted.

2. Write Down 3 Goals For The Day & Achieve Them

It might be tough to get yourself to stop feeling upset and start doing things, but I promise you, if you write down 3 things that you want to achieve that day and you achieve them, you will feel better. Even if the to-do list is as simple as make your bed, shower, & take a walk around the block, if you complete those tasks then you will feel like you accomplished something, which will boost your mood. A body in motion stays in motion, and if you keep writing down small goals and achieving them, you will continue to feel start feeling a little bit happier every single day.

3. Create Art, Music, Craft, Or Write

Art is one of my favorite ways to let out my emotions. If you enjoy writing, write about how you are feeling or create a short story. If you are an artist, take out a sketchpad and sketch a drawing. If you love crafting, do a new DIY project or start a new craft project. If you play an instrument, cover a new song or try creating a new song. You could also stop at your local bookstore and pick up an adult coloring book.

4. Talk To A Friend Or Loved One

When I’m upset, I sometimes like to keep to myself and not talk to anyone. However, the moment I decide to text or call a friend or loved one, I automatically feel better. Sometimes we talk about what is upsetting me or sometimes we talk about something silly or a TV show.

Talking to a friend or loved one reminds you that you are not alone. Also, they will most likely make you laugh or smile, which will automatically make you happier. (Bonus points if you see them in person!)

5. Do Something For You

Watch one of your favorite television shows or take a really nice bubble bath. If you love reading, go to your local coffee shop or Starbucks and read a really good book for an hour. You have to take care of yourself when you are upset. It is easy to get caught up in your emotions and not want to take care of yourself. You can’t let the negativity win. Your mental health is important, and doing something for yourself is a step in the right direction towards happiness.

As usual Stephanie very well said You have a gift for writing!! First of all pray for healing!! and then ( l.) Let myself cry and get that emotion out of system (2) look for an inspirational quote!! (3) Talk to family about the situation as then you may see a light at the end of the tunnel. (4) This one is most important be positive and strong for those who need you to help them through the good and bad times. A smiling face can lift your spirits any day.. Tell that person you love and lastly do whatever you can to make the journey a pleasant and helpful one.

Cocooning myself up on the couch with a cozy blanket, the tv and my computer and tuning out! (which is exactly what I’m doing right now haha)
